Young miss Storm Crow again. It seems that in Chai, under certain circumstances, things like tattoos can become less of symbols and more of a reality. You may have noticed, too, that sleepers and awakenings and such things are something of a recurring theme in this world. GOSH, ISN'T THAT MYSTERIOUS.
